Cubs outfielder Michael Hermosillo hasn’t played the last couple of days, even in situations where his skills might have been useful.

Now we know why. The Cubs today placed Hermosillo on the 10-day injured list with a left forearm strain and selected outfielder Nick Martini from Triple-A Iowa. That fills the open 40-man roster spot opened when Andrew Romine was DFA’d on Monday.

Martini begins his third stint with the Cubs this season. He previously appeared in 12 games and went 1-for-12 with an RBI and two walks. The left-handed hitter has batted .267 (72-for-270) with nine doubles, three triples, a career-high 11 home runs and 40 RBI in 78 games at Triple-A Iowa this year.

Hermosillo, a native of Ottawa, Illinois, is hitting .194/.237/.500 (7-for-36) with two doubles, three home runs and seven RBI in 16 games for the Cubs this season.

The 40-man roster is once again full.
