BCB After Dark: Where goes Belli?

The late-night/early-morning spot for Cubs fans asks you where Cody Bellinger will play next season.

MLB: Chicago Cubs at Atlanta Braves Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

It’s another Tuesday evening here at BCB After Dark: the swingin’ spot for night owls, early risers, new parents and Cubs fans abroad. Glad you could make it this evening. It’s always good to see a friendly face. Come on in and get warm. We can check your coat for you. Grab any available table, or just make a new friend. Bring your own beverage.

BCB After Dark is the place for you to talk baseball, music, movies, or anything else you need to get off your chest, as long as it is within the rules of the site. The late-nighters are encouraged to get the party started, but everyone else is invited to join in as you wake up the next morning and into the afternoon.

Last night I asked you if you thought that Adbert Alzolay would record 30 saves for the Cubs in 2024. I don’t know if you are worried about Alzolay’s health, think the Cubs are going to land a major closer or you are all just in a bad mood, but 61 percent of you thought that Alzolay would fall short of 30 saves.

So here’s the part where I put the music and the movies. Those of you who skip that can do so now. You wont hurt my feelings.

Tonight we have Samara Joy singing a holiday song that you probably haven’t heard a million times already this month. It’s her version of the Julie London song “Warm in December.” This performance is from 2022.

Just a reminder that you still have time to vote in the BCB Winter Western Classic between True Grit (1969) and My Darling Clementine (1946). Up next will be The Magnificent Seven (1960) versus 3:10 to Yuma (1957). After that, we have McCabe and Mrs. Miller (1971) taking on A Fistful of Dollars (1964). Finally, the last matchup of the first round will put Johnny Guitar (1954) up against Ride the High Country (1962). I’m telling you this now so in case you have some time over the holiday and want something to watch, here are six more recommended movies.

Welcome back to everyone who skips the music and movies.

I kind of feel like I’m coasting off of Sara Sanchez’s “advent calendar,” but this is a question that I was planning to do this week anyway, so that article (which you should read) just convinced me to make it tonight’s topic.

I’m not going to ask about should the Cubs re-sign Cody Bellinger or for how much. Tonight’s poll question is much simpler. I’m asking you “Where will Cody Bellinger play next year?”

I think most of us want Bellinger to return to the Cubs next year. And to be honest, I think Bellinger wants to return too. I have no inside information to support that, but the recent leaks to the media that the “Blue Jays are the favorites to sign Bellinger right now” seemed like a familiar tactic from Scott Boras, telling the Cubs to increase their offer. Maybe I’m wrong on that point and Bellinger really wants to be a Blue Jay and the Blue Jays have a huge offer on the table. Jesse Rogers has an article out earlier today that makes the argument that Toronto has the edge over the Cubs.

There are two other teams that I have seen connected to Bellinger—the Giants and the Mariners. I’ll make both of those teams options to vote for. Or you can vote “other” and tell us which team you think Bellinger will play for next year.

So which team will sign Cody Bellinger?
