Welcome to today’s episode of Cub Tracks news and notes™, a greatest-hits collection of Chicago-style beat writers and bloggers, ground from #Cubs, #MiLB, and #MLB baseball, overheated, steeped in writers’ tears, and then cold-brewed overnight for maximum flavor.

Live from Whocaresville:

Cancel that redemption arc. Those ghosts all came by but I don’t renounce my ways, mostly because I’m not wrong. There are less difference-makers every day, with the Dodgers signing ALL THE FREE AGENTS.

Meanwhile the Cubs are wearing sensible shoes and have less of a chance to see the postseason than they did last year, when they didn’t make it. They’re less competitive in the offseason than they are in-season.

And it makes me profoundly angry that they’re this way. Oh they’re ‘in on’ this guy and that guy, according to spoon-fed national writers and leaks to beats.

I don’t believe them. I link to their stuff here but I understand how this all works. Spring Training doesn’t start tomorrow. But that’s no reason to sit on the ball and then punt. The Cubs are not ahead.

“In the meantime, here’s one thing I know for certain: I’m gonna hope like hell that the Dodgers fall on their faces as often as possible.” — Brett Taylor

On the other hand, it’s a holiday weekend and we should be of good cheer. I’m the cook Xmas Day and I’m planning and prepping a meal for four. Ham on the smoker, biala kielbasa and all the fixin’s for both and plenty of fresh kolachy cuz it’s a Green Xmas.

Have a Cool Yule and a Fabulous First! Pass the eggnog! It’s Festivus — have at it below. Or tell us about your dinner plans.
