Cub Tracks clocks in

#Cubs, #MLB, and #MiLB news and notes. The tree, still devoid of presents, is also now devoid of presence — we threw it out. Now there’s just a blank spot in the room, if you don’t mind the elephant. Maybe we need a trade clock. A FA timer.,.

Welcome to today’s episode of Cub Tracks news and notes™, a greatest-hits collection of Chicago-style beat writers and bloggers, ground from #Cubs, #MiLB, and #MLB baseball, overheated, steeped in writers’ tears, and then cold-brewed overnight for maximum flavor.

I love the Cubs. They are my team. But right now they are vexing me, and no mistake. Jed Hoyer apparently refuses to sign anyone of any consequence. I mean, I’d be all for it if it would work. I like the idea of growing your own team and supplementing. But there’s absolutely no supplementing going on. The team is ill-equipped to contend in the coming season, at present, and that’s where I am. I don’t want to be patient.

It’d be worse if I actually spent any money on the team. I don’t have any, so I can’t, but that’s beside the point.

‘Business as usual’ is depressing and seems unnecessary. This isn’t ‘the human drama of athletic competition.’ It’s not fun. It’s not instructive. It’s not glamorous. It’s just a pain in the back end. The zeitgeist is riddled with such sentiment. There’s enough frost in the air that I’m tempted to put a kitchen chair out front so I can park.

We’ve been reduced to writing about how there’s nothing to write about. Oh boy.
