2023 MLB Winter Meetings Day 2 open thread

Alternative headline: “Waiting for Ohtani”

Kyle Schwab-USA TODAY Sports

So far, the Winter Meetings have produced little activity in terms of trades or free-agent signings. Depicted above is the media room in Nashville, where a lot of writers are just waiting around. That produces things like this:

Yeah, writers with not much to do. Example No. 2:

This is what amounts to actual news:

Erick Fedde. That’s the biggest name so far. He spent some uninspiring years with the Nationals from 2017-22, was totally dominant in KBO last year (20 wins, 2.09 ERA, 0.954 WHIP in 30 starts) and, well, maybe that might translate to MLB.

Beyond that, if no transactions worth noting happen today, there will be the MLB Draft Lottery this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. CT. The Cubs have an 0.4 percent chance of winding up with the No. 1 pick. Small, but not zero.

Use this thread for Winter Meetings discussion all day. Of course, if the Cubs make a trade or signing, it’ll be covered separately on the front page.

Have at it!
