SB Nation Reacts: Who will win the wild cards?

We’re down to the last week of regular season action.

Just one week remains in the 2023 MLB regular season, and there are still several postseason spots not locked up. Of course, you are quite familiar with the Cubs’ quest for a wild card position.

SB Nation Reacts’ most recent survey asked fans who they think will take home the wild card spots in each league. Here are the results:

This, of course, matches the current standings for the three wild card positions. With the Diamondbacks facing a schedule crunch due to Tropical Storm Ophelia messing with their weekend schedule against the Yankees, it’s possible the Cubs could pass them into the second wild card spot. If that happens, the Cubs would face the Phillies in a wild card series in Philadelphia. Otherwise, the Cubs would face the Brewers in Milwaukee if they take the third wild card slot.

The American League is a bit more complicated:

The Rays still have a chance to win the A.L. East.

And if the scenario posited by SB Nation Reacts voters comes to pass, one of the Astros or Rangers would miss the postseason. The other would be the A.L. West champion. The Mariners also still have a chance to win the A.L. West.

It’s going to be an exciting last week of baseball, which I suppose is what MLB’s moguls hoped for when they revamped the schedule so that all teams play the other 29 teams at least once throughout the season.
