Here are all the details.

After waiting about an hour and 40 minutes past game time while rounds of showers and thunderstorms passed through the area around Wrigley Field, the Cubs postponed Monday night’s game against the Brewers.

The game will be made up tomorrow as part of a split doubleheader, with the first game at 1:20 p.m. CT followed by the regularly scheduled 7:05 p.m. CT contest. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.

Tickets to Monday’s postponed game will be valid to use for tomorrow’s rescheduled 1:20 p.m. CT contest. Gates are expected to open approximately 90 minutes before first pitch.

The Cubs remind everyone of the following:

Mobile tickets via the MLB Ballpark app will automatically update with the makeup game information. No ticket exchange is necessary. Separate tickets are required for each game. Fans must exit the ballpark after the completion of the makeup game. Gates will reopen approximately 90 minutes after the last pitch of the first game for the regularly scheduled 7:05 p.m. CT game.

Some people wonder why the game couldn’t have been started on time, since it wasn’t raining. Lightning was in the area and fans were ordered to shelter in place. Eventually some rain did come through, several times, and as I write this it’s raining yet again near the ballpark. The worst thing to do would be to start and stop — the Cubs handled this delay as well as they possibly could have, in my view.

It’s not yet certain what the teams will do with pitching for Tuesday’s doubleheader. Alec Mills was supposed to start Monday and he’ll likely throw one of the games. The Cubs said earlier that they would recall Justin Steele to start Tuesday so he’ll also likely start one of the games.

I’ll have more information in the game preview Tuesday for Game 1. That will post at 11:30 a.m. CT tomorrow.

This ought to be interesting.

Monday notes...

WATCH THE WEATHER: There is a pretty good chance storms will interrupt or perhaps even postpone this game. Thus, keep this handy:

33 YEARS AGO TONIGHT: After a rainout prevented the first night game August 8, 1988, the Cubs and Mets played the first official night game in Wrigley Field history the next night, August 9. The Cubs won 6-4.

LOTS AND LOTS OF CUBS: Yesterday I noted that Greg Deichmann became the 57th Cub in 2021. That broke the franchise record for players used in a season, set in 2012. Deichmann is the 2,150th player to have played a game for the Cubs since they began in the National League in 1876.

LOOKING FOR QUALITY: The Cubs are 25-11 when receiving a quality start. The rotation is 25-7 with a 2.14 ERA in their 36 quality starts this season. The starters are 11-36 with a 6.42 ERA in the team’s other 77 games.

As I have previously noted here, Alec Mills is a much better pitcher at Wrigley Field than on the road in 2021.

Home: 11 appearances (four starts), 3.27 ERA, 1.242 WHIP in 33 innings
Road: 11 appearances (six starts), 5.45 ERA, 1.624 WHIP in 36⅓ innings

In four appearances (one start) vs. Milwaukee this year, he has a 3.24 ERA and 0.600 WHIP in 8⅓ innings, pretty good, small sample size alert.

And there’s the no-hitter he threw against them last year. So, maybe tonight will be good for Alec.

In 14 starts since May 11 he has a 1.76 ERA and 0.817 WHIP and has allowed more than two runs only once.

The 2021 Game Thread procedure will be a bit different than previous years. It will be similar to what we’ve used for Spring Training.

You’ll find the game preview posted separately on the front page two hours before game time (90 minutes for some early day games following night games).

At the same time, a StoryStream containing the preview will also post on the front page, titled “Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of week/date) game threads.” It will contain every post related to that particular game, including the First Pitch Thread and the overflow thread, as well as the recap when it’s published. The recap will also live on the front page as a separate post.

You will also be able to find the preview, First Pitch Thread and the overflow thread in the box marked “Chicago Cubs Game Threads” at the bottom of the front page (you can also find them in this section link). The StoryStream for each game can also be found in that section.

The First Pitch thread will post at five minutes before game time, then an overflow thread at 90 minutes after the scheduled game time.
